Surfing
Take advantage of the excellent surf conditions with our surfboard rental, and enjoy the waves at two of Costa Rica’s best surfing beaches – the nearby Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra.
New to surfing? We can arrange surf lessons with our friends at Avellanas Surf School with instructors who have been surfing this area for decades. Lessons are 90 minutes, for all levels, and take place at Playa Avellanas, just 1 km away.
Yoga & Wellness
There is no shortage of beautiful places to practice yoga in our piece of paradise. You can practice on your own in our beautiful yoga shala or on the quiet beach just 200m from our hostel.

Enjoy Surfboard, Boogie Board Rentals
Blue Zone Resort offers surfboards and boogie boards rental to all our guests. Boogie boarding at the beach is fun for the entire family – or grab a surfboard and head to some of the best surfing beaches in Costa Rica! We also offer beach umbrellas and beach towels.
Horseback Riding
Experience the beauty of some of this area’s hidden spots on a horseback. It’s how locals in this area have been getting around for centuries and how some of them still do today!
You can choose a sunset horseback ride along the beach or an adventure through lush vegetation.
Horseback riding tours are run by a local provider and can be booked directly at the lodge.
Zip-Lining
If you want an opportunity to experience the Costa Rican jungle from another angle, don’t miss a chance to soar through the trees on a canopy tour!
There are a couple of canopy tour providers in the area offering zip-lining adventures suitable for all fitness levels.
Zip lining tours usually last 3-4 hours and include transport to and from our lodge. They can be booked directly at the lodge.
TURTLE WATCHING
A once-in-a-lifetime wildlife viewing opportunity awaits at Playa Ostional, where once a month (in season), a rare phenomenon occurs. Hundreds, sometimes thousands of sea turtles come ashore in the evenings to lay their eggs in the sand on the beach. It is called “la arribada” – the arrival – and Costa Rica is one of only a handful of places on the planet where you can see this. It is a sight you and your family won’t soon forget!
Sunset Sail
Relax and enjoy the waves and views of the Costa Rican shoreline from a catamaran or monohull sailboat. The boats set sail in the early afternoon from Tamarindo and lazily sail up the coast. Stop for a swim and a snorkel and enjoy a lunch and free drinks before returning to Tamarindo while the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean. Blue Zone Resort staff can book your sailboat excursion.
Crocodile Riverboat Cruise
Get up close and personal with these ancient reptiles as they bask in the sun on the banks of the Tempisque River. See crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys and many kinds of birds on a shaded boat for 2 hours – then enjoy a Costa Rican-style lunch in a historic Rancho. After, you can add a rum tasting or see how sugar cane was processed in the old days. Blue Zone Resort can arrange your tour. Pickup and drop off at the eco lodge is available.
Scuba Diving
Dive the spectacular rock formations and reefs that surround the Catalina Islands. If you’re lucky you’ll see sharks, manta rays, and dolphins. Colorful fish of all sizes and shapes abound in the vibrant tropical waters. There are special classes for beginners.
Thermal Hot Springs
Enjoy the warm waters of the Rio Negro, naturally heated by the Rincon de la Vieja volcano – the largest volcano in Guanacaste. Sit and bathe in the crystal clear, mineral-rich waters of the 10 pools beside the river, and cover yourself in volcanic mud that has therapeutic properties.
