If you decide to travel to Costa Rica, you have a chance to visit Guanacaste on the Nicoya Peninsula to stay in a Playa Hermosa hotel. This tropical region is widely known for its beautiful beaches, impressive wildlife and vegetation, and even the presence of volcanoes. It also has a rich culture and a great touristic industry.
However, with so many options, it can be hard to choose the best activities for your next trip. After all, enjoying the “Pura Vida” philosophy is more than nice landscapes. It is a whole lifestyle you have to experience. Locals in this Blue Zone live longer and are healthier due to what they experience daily! For all these reasons, we can help you plan a great trip.
Understanding the area | What to expect of Guanacaste?
With warm temperatures having an average between 85° F to 100° F during the year, the blue sky will be nearly constant. There are only two seasons in this country, dry and rainy. And they have a higher and a lower influence on tourist presence respectively.
The dry season is between December and April, with the hottest month being in March; while the rainy season happens between May and November, with the rainiest months occurring during September and October. During these months, you can expect daily rains in the evenings and at nights. Therefore, unless you come for specific holidays or activities, planning a trip is possible during all the year.
For the arrival, you can fly straight to the Guanacaste (LIR) Airport, one of the two international landing fields in Costa Rica. Most flights are daily, and from here, arriving at the Blue Zone Resort will only take around one hour and a half, during which you will be able to take in the scenic beauty.
Depending on what you want to do, renting a car may be the best idea for exploring. It is possible to take public transportation or book private shuttles, especially if you are going on tours. But if you prefer exploring on your own, a car – or ideally, a 4×4 vehicle! – will allow you to cruise anywhere.
Activities available | What can you do?
Once in Guanacaste, you will have countless options to spend your time. Let´s see some of them:
❯ Beach tourism
If you are a fan of white sands, warm waters, and tanning on a beach, then you will enjoy all the Pacific coast in Guanacaste. Playa Avellanas, Playa Tamarindo, and Playa Negra are some of the most popular options. Swimming is nice, of course, but if you feel like doing more, there are plenty of activities available.
Fans of waves and adrenaline can surf and boggie board. Even if you do not have equipment, our rental got you covered. If you prefer being underwater, then look for scuba diving tours. If you would rather snorkel and relax while drinking some wine, just sail on a monohull sailboat or catamaran for an unforgettable afternoon.
For those who are not looking forward to being in the water or wanting to do something different while seeing the coast, then you can book horseback riding for a nice moment during the sunset through the beach.
❯ Exploring the wilderness
If you are more interested in seeing the amazing fauna and flora of Costa Rica – a country with 5% of the world’s biodiversity! – then you will enjoy visiting the nearby national parks. The most popular option is Rincon de la Vieja, where you will find different trails to explore, rich wildlife, and even thermal hot springs heated by volcanic activity!
You can also avoid a hike, and instead relax on a shaded boat while you sail across the Tempisque River. Here, you will be able to see crocodiles, monkeys, and different birds species, before finishing off with a Costa Rican lunch in a historic rancho.
Another possibility is zip-lining through the jungle. The adrenaline lovers will enjoy the unique view as they soar between the trees. Most canopy tours last between 3 and 4 hours and offer different options to adapt to every level.
Outside of the wilderness, it is also a great idea to visit Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste, to explore the local gastronomy and nightlife with the locals. The truth is, no matter what you choose to do, it will be an unforgettable experience. Costa Rica offers a lot of amazing options, and the perfect trip will be your selected one.
